Executive Director – Permanent Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director manages and oversees the Child & Family Services Program and Services provided by the Workers to the Opaskwayak Cree Nation members. The Executive Director plans and coordinates activities of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation Child & Family Services and will be expected to carry forth all duties relating to the development of an independent, community-based mandated First Nations agency.


  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with five years direct First Nations Child Welfare experience or other related combinations of education and experience;
  • Knowledge of Child and Family Services Act and Provincial standards;
  • Familiarity with Child and Family Service Information System (CFSIS) is an asset;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications and have the ability to work in a fast- paced environment;
  • Must be willing to travel, have a valid Manitoba Driver's License and use of personal vehicle;
  • Current Prior Contact, Child Abuse and Police check in good standing;
  • Experience in executive management and administration;
  • Knowledge of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and its’ culture;
  • Knowledge and significant experience in management and the development and implementation of management policies and systems;
  • Good interpersonal skills and adherence to policies;
  • Significant experience in financial accounting operations, internal control, and managing human and financial resources;
  • Experience and work with government funding;

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates work plans and activities by establishing objectives in accordance with existing policies, procedures and approved programs;
  • Monitors and assesses activities of workers to ensure compliance with goals, objectives and requirements;
  • Advises the Board and management on the development of policies, programs and procedures;
  • Organizes, recruits and authorizes the establishment of major departments and staff positions;
  • Ensures appropriate reporting systems are maintained;
  • Assists, reviews and analyses appropriate financial reporting and controlling systems to provide budgetary control;
  • Attends and reports at scheduled Board meetings;
  • Represents and provides regular reports and presentations during affiliated agency/organization and/or funding source meetings, when required, on behalf of Opaskwayak Cree Nation Cree Family Services; and
  • Negotiates and analyses alternate funding sources.
